We hope that everyone has had an enjoyable and safe summer on our lakes!

As Summer officially comes to a close, we would like to share a few updates about the exciting progress made this summer by the new Turkey Creek Dam Dike and Conservancy District. It was another wonderful lake season, and the work being done on behalf of the District board members (along with community involvement) ensures that there are many more great summers on the horizon.

District Plan Approval

The Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), Division of Water recently approved the District Plan for the Turkey Creek Dam and Dike Conservancy District. The District provided the detailed plan of outlet structure rehabilitation and maintenance projects, along with engineering studies, cost estimates and proposed phases of project completion based on need. The District plan and IDNR documents are available on the Resources page for more information.

Projects

The South Huntington Street Dam rehabilitation and Harkless Drive Dike projects are still in the planning stages. However, completion of foundational items such as the DNR flood control inspection, securing project easements and information obtained from engineering reports have all been key to keeping these high priority projects moving forward. These structures play a major role in keeping lake levels safe for activities and our properties. The progress made in these early stages is very encouraging.

Involvement

The District is dedicated to keeping the community informed of project developments and important water level information. We will continue to update the website with district activities, events and project updates. Be sure to keep checking back for calendar updates on upcoming public board meetings. We are also working on an email newsletter, so make sure to visit the contact page and sign up to receive updates on projects, water levels, and more!
